NIST selects HQC as backup algorithm for post-quantum encryption - Help Net Security

NIST has selected HQC as a backup post-quantum encryption algorithm, complementing the primary ML-KEM algorithm. HQC, based on error-correcting codes, will provide a second line of defense against potential quantum computer attacks. NIST plans to release a draft standard for HQC in 2026, with finalization expected in 2027.
