Are We Closing the Gender Gap in Cybersecurity? www.darkreading.com/cybersecu…

After more than a decade in cybersecurity and years spent in security roles, I’ve often found myself as the only woman on teams — sometimes the only woman in the room. With a Ph.D. in women’s political and workforce participation, empowering women in tech isn’t just a professional goal; it’s deeply personal. But I’m also a cybersecurity professional, committed to defending organisations from cyberattacks. And here’s a fact that’s often overlooked: Diverse teams are significantly more resilient to security threats. Research shows that organisations with at least 30% women on their cybersecurity teams experience 40% fewer security incidents. That’s not a typo — 40% fewer. More diversity, more perspectives, more resilience. If this is the case, then why are we still obsessing over the latest next-gen vulnerability management tool instead of focusing on hiring more women? Of course, it is not just about the numbers, is it?
