COMMENTARY: Cyber incidents and ransomware hacks happen every day, and my company has responded to its fair share. Over the years, I’ve seen several business owners who were out of their element when faced with the possibility of becoming a victim of cybercriminal activity.

A recent breach we responded to is a perfect example of what not to do when your network is controlled by a threat actor. The reckless behavior of the customer was uncontrollable. Everything you would hope to do in an incident was either not done or done in reverse. Here are some of the things they did, and yes — this is all true.
