Belgian Police Print Cybercrime Warnings on Bread Bags to Reach Offline Citizens

To combat rising internet crime, the Pajottenland police zone in Belgium has launched a creative awareness campaign by distributing 10,000 bread bags printed with practical tips to prevent online scams. The initiative, titled Laat je niet in ‘t zak zetten (“Don’t get bagged”), aims to reach residents—particularly seniors—who are less active on social media and therefore often miss digital safety campaigns.

The bags, available from July 16 at local bakeries and shops in Bever, Lennik, Pajottegem and Pepingen, include clear advice such as avoiding suspicious links and never sharing PIN codes. The campaign focuses on helping older adults protect themselves from phishing, identity theft and digital fraud, as more seniors increasingly engage in online banking and communication. Local bakers have embraced the initiative, ensuring the message is delivered with their daily bread.
