Healthcare Giant AMEOS Discloses Major Data Breach Impacting Patients and Staff Across Europe
The AMEOS Group, one of Central Europe’s largest private healthcare providers, disclosed a cybersecurity breach impacting its IT systems across Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. In accordance with Article 34 of the GDPR, AMEOS publicly acknowledged that patient, employee, and partner data—potentially including personal contact information—may have been compromised. While the full extent of the data exposure remains under investigation, the organization warned that the stolen data could be misused online. In response, AMEOS disconnected all network systems, initiated a controlled shutdown, and engaged IT forensic experts. It has since notified data protection authorities, filed a criminal complaint, and is working closely with regulators. The breach underscores the persistent threat facing healthcare institutions and the critical importance of transparency, rapid response, and data protection in mitigating harm.
