In a recent online poll, Dark Reading asked readers about how vibe coding fits into their organization’s application development strategy. The results reflect a complex present, one where AI coding assistants show promise but exist in a world of substantial risk.

Although some companies may not admit to using AI-generated code or AI tools because of a potential stigma associated with AI (such as from an intellectual property standpoint), “shadow AI” is the more relevant issue. In an effort to skip the tedium of official company software procurement workflows and work more efficiently, some developers have integrated unmonitored, unsanctioned AI tools into their development processes without permission. This is not only a compliance issue, but a security one as well.
