A study by researchers at UC San Diego and University of Maryland revealed that roughly half of geostationary satellite signals are unencrypted, exposing sensitive communications from T-Mobile, US military, and critical infrastructure. The researchers used a basic $800 satellite receiver system to intercept these signals, highlighting significant cybersecurity vulnerabilities in satellite communications.
