New research reveals that Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly used to automate the human element of romance scams, convincingly building emotional connections and trust with victims. In a controlled study, an LLM agent even achieved higher compliance rates than a human partner when asking participants to install an app, demonstrating the potential for AI to enhance the effectiveness of these fraudulent schemes.
