According to an alert issued today by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), the attacks are designed to take websites offline and disrupt essential services. While these attacks are generally low in technical sophistication, the NCSC notes they can still impose significant operational and financial costs on affected organizations. “Although denial-of-service attacks are typically low in sophistication, a successful attack can disrupt entire systems, costing organizations significant time, money and operational resilience as they analyse, defend against and recover from the activity,” the agency said. The NCSC specifically identified the threat actor NoName057(16), a pro-Russian hacktivist group that has been active since March 2022, as a key participant in the ongoing campaign.
