AI slop is piling up highest on the biggest open-source projects
Maintainers of large open-source projects estimate that close to a third of the code changes landing in their review queues are low quality or AI-generated, according to a Linux Foundation survey of 234 open source contributors and maintainers covered by Help Net Security. Across all projects the estimate was about one in four submissions, and maintainers of the largest projects said burnout, rather than code quality, was now their main concern, while only about a third of projects have a formal policy allowing AI-assisted contributions.
