Keystone to Destroy 18,835 Hardware Wallets After Hackers Steal Device Verification Key
Hardware wallet maker Keystone will destroy 18,835 devices after an attacker who gained access to its website obtained the key the wallets use to prove they are genuine, the company said in a statement on October 26. Someone with that key could build counterfeit devices that pass the online authenticity check owners use, putting buyers who trusted a counterfeit at risk of having cryptocurrency stolen; Keystone says the incident did not involve customer funds or wallet private keys.
