European Court Fines European Commission for Privacy Violation
The European Court of Justice ruled against the European Commission, ordering them to pay 400 euros to German national Thomas Bindl. Bindl successfully argued that the Commission violated his privacy by allowing Facebook to obtain his IP address when he registered for a Commission-hosted conference using his Facebook account. The Court acknowledged that Bindl could have used an “EU Login” account, but ruled that the Commission created the conditions for his data to be transmitted to Facebook.
