Record-breaking 5.6 Tbps DDoS attack and global DDoS trends for 2024 Q4

Cloudflare’s DDoS defense systems blocked 21.3 million attacks in 2024, a 53% increase from 2023. The largest attack on record, a 5.6 Tbps UDP DDoS attack, targeted a Cloudflare Magic Transit customer and lasted only 80 seconds. HTTP DDoS attacks were primarily launched by known botnets, while Layer 3/Layer 4 attacks saw a surge in Mirai-variant botnet activity.
