The Impact Of Artificial Intelligence On Submarine

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to significantly impact submarine networks, particularly in terms of traffic demand and equipment design. While AI-driven applications will likely increase both north-south and east-west traffic, the latter is expected to grow faster due to the computational demands of AI training and inference. AI can enhance submarine network technology in two main ways: operationally, by automating network planning, monitoring, and maintenance; and network-based, by enabling threat monitoring and proactive protection, as well as advanced nonlinear compensation.
