CRA accounts hacked after 28,000 social insurance numbers stolen in data breach | Radio-Canada.ca

A data breach of the British Columbia government’s Interior Health authority exposed personal information of over 28,000 employees. The stolen data, including social insurance numbers, was sold on the dark web and used to commit identity theft, including filing bogus tax returns and obtaining fraudulent loans. The Fifth Estate investigation revealed that at least seven Interior Health employees had their CRA accounts hacked, with imposters targeting H&R Block offices in Alberta.
