A U.K. government official announced a series of cybersecurity measures aimed at shoring up critical infrastructure security as retailers in the country continue to recover from disruptive hacks. Speaking at CyberUK, the annual summit of the U.K. National Cybersecurity Center on Wednesday, Pat McFadden, minister for intergovernmental relations, said British businesses “must treat cybersecurity as an absolute priority.”
The comment from the minister comes as London High Street mainstays Marks & Spencer, Co-op and Harrods reported hacks and subsequent data loss and disruptions of their operations (see: NCSC Recommends Security Measures Amid UK Retailer Hacks). “These attacks need to be a wake-up call for every business in the U.K. It serves as a powerful reminder that just as you would never leave your car or your house unlocked on your way to work. We have to treat our digital shop fronts the same way,” McFadden said.
