Louis Vuitton Investigated in Hong Kong Following Customer Data Leak Amid Global Cyber Incidents

Hong Kong’s privacy watchdog has launched an investigation into a data breach affecting approximately 419,000 Louis Vuitton customers. The leaked information includes names, passport numbers, birth dates, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, shopping history and product preferences. While no payment data was compromised, authorities are examining whether Louis Vuitton Hong Kong delayed reporting the breach, which was first detected by the company’s French headquarters on June 13 and confirmed locally on July 2. A formal report was filed with the Privacy Commissioner on July 17.

This incident follows similar cyber attacks targeting Louis Vuitton’s operations in the United Kingdom and South Korea earlier this month, as well as a breach reported by Christian Dior Couture in May. Louis Vuitton stated it had engaged cybersecurity experts, notified relevant regulators and customers, and reinforced system defences. The breach underscores growing concerns over targeted attacks on global luxury brands and the heightened regulatory focus on cross-border data handling practices.
