Introducing Lumo, the AI where every conversation is confidential | Proton

Proton Launches Lumo, a Privacy-Focused AI Assistant

Swiss privacy company Proton has introduced Lumo, an AI assistant designed with enhanced privacy protections compared to mainstream alternatives. The service operates without server-side logging, employs zero-access encryption for stored conversations, and doesn’t utilise user data for model training—addressing growing concerns about data collection in AI applications. Built on open-source language models and hosted in European data centres, Lumo offers standard AI capabilities including web search and file analysis whilst maintaining user anonymity. The launch represents part of Proton’s broader €100 million investment in European infrastructure, positioning the service within the company’s existing privacy-focused ecosystem that serves over 100 million users globally. Available through both free and premium tiers, Lumo reflects the emerging market demand for AI services that prioritise data protection alongside functionality.
