Cyberattack on Orange Disrupts Telecom Services Across France
Orange, France’s largest telecom provider and one of Europe and Africa’s leading mobile service companies, has confirmed a cyberattack on one of its internal systems, impacting corporate and consumer services primarily in France. While the company has stated that no customer or Orange data appears to have been extracted, it acknowledged disruptions as Orange Cyberdefense worked to contain the incident and limit its impact. The attack follows recent warnings from France’s cybersecurity agency, ANSSI, about escalating state-sponsored threats targeting the nation’s telecom sector.
The ANSSI report highlighted previous espionage-related compromises involving mobile network cores and satellite communications, underlining the strategic importance of telecommunications infrastructure. Although attribution has not been made public, the incident bears similarities to sophisticated attacks seen elsewhere, including those linked to Salt Typhoon in the United States. Orange has filed a complaint, alerted authorities, and continues to support affected customers as investigations remain ongoing.
