Russia sought to induce blackout in Poland, minister says Source: NV.ua english.nv.ua/nation/ru… Poland narrowly avoided a nationwide power outage following a series of cyberattacks attributed to Russia, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski. In an interview with Polish outlet RMF24, Gawkowski said multiple power-generation facilities were targeted in coordinated cyberattacks toward the end of 2025, during a period of severe winter weather. He described the incident as “the most serious attack on our energy infrastructure,” with the apparent objective of cutting electricity to citizens just before the end of the year. “We were very close to a blackout,” Gawkowski said. Despite the severity of the incident, Gawkowski noted that Polish institutions were well prepared and successfully defended against the attacks. Earlier, Energy Minister Milos Motika confirmed that the December cyberattack ultimately failed to disrupt electricity production. Separately, a report published by The Independent on Jan. 10 said Western intelligence agencies are warning of an expanding range of covert Russian activities designed to destabilize countries through indirect means, stopping short of direct military confrontation.
